CFI has brought to the international market films such as Jason Reitman’s ‘Thank You For Smoking’, ‘Black Book’ directed by Paul Verhoeven, Duncan Tucker’s ‘Transamerica’ and more recently ‘The Messenger’ directed by Oren Morverman and ‘Extract’ from cult director Mike Judge.
Carmichael said, ‘Whilst we will continue to search out high quality international director driven films – we currently have the UK’s Andrea Arnold’s ‘Fish Tank’ in production and Australia’s Glendyn Irvin’s ‘Last Ride’ which just wrapped – it’s clear to me that the market is hungry for commercial US movies. My move to Los Angeles is all about searching out these films and we’re tremendously excited and motivated to bring them in. CFI is six years old this week and our business and executives are ready to step up to the demands of bigger movies.’
ContentFilm’s CEO John Schmidt said: ‘We’re very excited to have Jamie in LA. Our company is growing rapidly and this expansion of the film unit into the US is the logical next step as we look to acquire more US product. We’ve also recently appointed Paul Lewis as Vice President, Development for our TV division, Fireworks, who is also based in LA. With these two moves, the Film and TV units are now well balanced between London and LA and poised for further growth.’
