Scheduled for theatrical release in the US in December, STEEP is an extreme, adrenaline-fueled feature documentary about adventure, athleticism and the pursuit of perfection. This is the story of ‘big mountain skiing’, and the fearless athletes who have made this extreme sport their own… Jam-packed full of death-defying footage from some of the most beautiful places on earth (Alaska, Wyoming, Canada, France and Iceland), STEEP is certainly not for the faint-hearted.The film had its world premiere in the Spotlight Section of this year’s Tribeca Film Festival and screened to great acclaim this summer in Telluride. CFI will be screening the film for buyers at the AFM early November.
STEEP is produced by High Ground Productions in association with The Documentary Group. Executive Producers are J. Stuart Horsfall, Mark Obenhaus and Tom Yellin. Producers are Jordan Kronick and Gabrielle Tenenbaum. Cast includes such world renowned skiers as Ingrid Backstrom, Chris Davenport, Doug Coombs, Shane McConkey, Andrew McLean, Seth Morrison, Eric Pehota, Glen Plake, Anselme Baud and Stefano deBenedetti.
CFI President, Carmichael said: “As a passionate skier, and being familiar with ordinary skiing movies, I was completely blown away by the spectacular, death defying skiing in STEEP. Not to mention the personalities themselves. This is a completely different take on the genre.”
Executive producer Tom Yellin said: “The most surprising thing we discovered in making STEEP is how interesting it is to hear these amazing athletes talk about what it means to risk your life in pursuit of your passion. Their words are often as remarkable as their deeds, and that is something we never expected and are thrilled shows up on the screen.”
