Roadside Attractions has acquired all US rights to Marc Forby’s Hawaiian historical biopic Princess Kaiulani.
Q’orianka Kilcher (pictured) stars as a turn-of–the-century princess caught up in the last days of the Hawaiian monarchy. Barry Pepper, Shaun Evans and Will Patton round out the cast.
Nigel Thomas, Ricardo S Galindez, Roy J Tjioe, Lauri Apelian and Forby produced, with Jeffrey KD Au, Leilani Forby, Charlotte Walls, Wanda Watumull, Laurie Hayward and Sheryl Crown serving as executive producers.
Roadside will release in theatres in late spring and Lionsgate will handle the DVD and other ancillary markets through Roadside’s output deal.
Princess Kaiulani received its world premiere recently at the Hawaii International Film Festival under the title Barbarian Princess and won the audience award.
Hawaii-based Island Film Group and the UK’s Matador Pictures produced and Contentfilm International is handling international sales.
Roadside co-presidents Eric d’Arbeloff and Howard Cohen negotiated the deal with Island Film Group founders Roy Tjioe and Ricardo Galindez on behalf of the film-makers.
