LIVING has acquired brand new supernatural crime thriller, ‘Blood Ties’ from distributor Fireworks International, a ContentFilm company. Described as “a new crime series with bite”, the stylish thriller, based on the popular Tanya Huff “Blood” series of novels, has a twist of romance and humour. Set to launch on Lifetime in the US this month, it is anticipated that Chum in Canada will debut the show a few weeks later. The 22-part series will launch in the UK on LIVING in summer 2007 as part of its primetime schedule.
Created by award-winning producer and writer Peter Mohan and developed in association with CHUM Television, ‘Blood Ties’ follows the misadventures of Vicki Nelson (played by Christina Cox), a gorgeous and determined 29-year old ex-cop turned private investigator, who also suffers from a degenerative eye disorder. Her world is turned upside down after witnessing a horrific murder and she finds herself caught up with a mysterious stranger who is also investigating the murder. He is Henry Fitzroy (played by Kyle Schmid; A History of Violence), a 450-year old vampire who just happens to be the bastard son of King Henry VIII. After solving the murder, Vicki finds her new venture into supernatural crime is far from over as Vicki’s professional relationship with Henry draws her into more intriguing cases involving a terrifying pantheon of occult adversaries. Vicki and Henry’s unlikely alliance soon progresses beyond a purely professional arrangement, creating a love triangle dilemma for Vicki alongside her relationship with long-suffering ex-partner in policing and love, Detective Mike Celluci (played by Dylan Neal; CSI Miami).
Amy Barham, Head of Acquisitions, LIVING, LIVING2 and ftn, said: “’Blood Ties’ hugely compelling paranormal storylines, as well as its sexy young cast, will offer LIVING viewers a real treat this summer.”
Kathryn Rice, Senior Vice-President European Sales and Acquisitions, FIREWORKS INTERNATIONAL commented: “We are delighted that ‘Blood Ties’ will launch in the UK on LIVING. It’s a brilliant show and a perfect fit for LIVING’s audience.”
Randy Zalken, Executive Producer of Kaleidoscope Entertainment, observed:
“The five ‘Vicki Nelson’ books have been successful in the U.K. and the author, Tanya Huff, is delighted with their transfusion to television. We have no doubt that Living’s viewers will embrace the series whole heartedly and with sanguine delight.”
‘Blood Ties’ is produced by Toronto’s Kaleidoscope Entertainment Inc. and Vancouver’s Insight Film Studios in association with CHUM Television.
