Zerophilia introduces a new era of teen sexuality: the ability to switch gender at will. Luke, an inexperienced young man has a random first sexual encounter while camping. This triggers his rare genetic condition, Zerophilia, which soon forces him to confront insecurities about his masculinity and sexuality. When he meets Michelle, the girl of his dreams, his attraction to her sets off a biological change, manifesting his deepest fears: His body begins transforming into a female. Luke shares his confusion with his closest friend, Keenan, who in turn enlists the help of the brilliant and manipulative Dr. Sydney Catchadourian. She instantly recognizes his rare condition and offers to help. But instead, operating from a secret personal agenda she cultivates Luke’s insecurities, urging him to let the “real” Luke out: “The truth will set you free. But first it can really piss you off!” Reluctantly, Luke agrees to experiment with turning all the way female. But as Luke’s gender options increase by one, insecurities about his masculinity increase by one million. As a guy Luke was attracted to Michelle, but now as “Luca”, a girl, she finds herself intensely attracted to Michelle’s brother, Max. For some, the lines separating friendship and love, admiration and attraction, occasionally blur. For Luke, they disappear. The parable of Zerophilia renders gender irrelevant and suggests humorously and with heart, that perhaps only one question matters: “Who do you love?” |
