:: I’m Reed Fish
Screened to rapturous applause at TRIBECA 2006 and starring a fantastic hot young cast, this hilarious, charming and sweetly emotional coming-of-age comedy, follows the laid-back, cool (if a little goofy!) Reed Fish, as he learns, through his many mistakes, how to step out of his fathers shadow and discover who he really is… As small town Mud Meadows’ TV news roaming reporter, and the voice of the local breakfast radio show, Reed Fish (Jay Baruchel) is adored by all. Following in the footsteps of his much loved and recently deceased father, he is frequently looked to for advice from the townsfolk, despite his youth and lack of life experience. Reed’s scruffy appearance and casual demeanour only add to his charm, and he breezes through life effortlessly and appears to take the responsibility in his stride. But as he and his beautiful fiancée Kate (Alexis Bledel) discuss the final details of the impending wedding, Reed’s life is turned upside-down when his childhood friend Jill (SChuyler Fisk ) returns from college with secret dreams of becoming a folk singer. With her warm smile and beautiful singing voice, she breathes new life into Mud Meadows, and most noticeably, into Reed’s heart… Overwhelmed by Jill’s performance at an open mike night (hosted by “Anchorman” and “Saturday Night Live”‘s ridiculously funny Chris Parnell), Reed impulsively kisses her – and the gossip spreads like wildfire. Soon the entire town has turned against him (including DJ Qualls as a Chuck Norris obsessed kung-fu wannabe), and Reed finds himself with nobody. His breakdown is manifested in a tirade against the whole TOWN of Mud Meadows live on air during his radio show, complete with an on-air fistfight with his best friend Frank! (Victor Rasuk). Bruised and battered physically as well as emotionally, Reed’s soul searching materialises into a decision to make a film of his life. The story is told through his eyes as we interweave between the movie of his life and the night of its first screening. But by laying his feelings out for all to see, can Reed win back the respect of the Mud Meadows townsfolk, and ultimately, the girl of his dreams? With a career defining lead performance by Jay Baruchel, I’M REED FISH harks back to the golden age of the ‘Ferris Bueller’s Day Off’ / ‘Breakfast Club’ genre, but updates it with a hip, modern laconic twist… |
