Mick Southworth, CEO of ContentFilm plc’s UK distribution arm, announced today that the company has acquired UK rights to ‘MY SUMMER OF LOVE’ the highly anticipated second film from the award-winning director of LAST RESORT, Pawel Pawlikowski. The acquisition is the first to be made by ContentFilm plc since their recent takeover of Winchester Entertainment. Produced by Tanya Seghatchian (HARRY POTTER) and Chris Collins (TOMORROW LA SCALA!, LAST RESORT), MY SUMMER OF LOVE is a BBC Films, The Film Consortium and Baker Street film in association with the UK Film Council. The film boasts exceptional debut performances from two new British actresses, Emily Blunt and Nathalie Press (both recently profiled in Screen International’s ‘Stars of Tomorrow’ feature) and Paddy Considine (LAST RESORT, IN AMERICA). Southworth said of the acquisition: “My Summer of Love is a strikingly attractive and charming film and we are delighted with the acquisition. Pawelwlikowski is a director of great talent and integrity and we are thrilled to have the opportunity to bring his vision to the big screen.” David Thompson, Head of BBC Films said: “After working with Pawel on his last film THE LAST RESORT, we were delighted to have the opportunity of making his latest project, which is a very different kind of film, but we believe it shows the same hallmarks of originality and flare. Above all what you get from Pawel’s work is a freshness and authenticity of performance. His way of working is unlike any other director that we have been involved with.”
MY SUMMER OF LOVE will premiere as a British Gala at the Edinburgh Film Festival and ContentFilm plc will release the film throughout the UK in October 2004. The film follows hot on the heels of a slate that has garnered critical acclaim and box-office success since the UK distribution company was founded in 2001. Among their recent releases are The Man Who Sued God and Open Range.
