Fireworks International will launch the brand new half-hour comedy series The Jane Show at MIP-TV 2006. Produced by Shaftesbury Films, The Jane Show is set to premiere on Global Television in the spring of 2006.

Created by Teresa Pavlinek and Ralph Chapmen, The Jane Show stars Teresa Pavlinek (History Bites, The Sean Cullen Show, As I was Saying) as Jane Black, a 30-something wannabe writer who foregoes her dream of becoming a novelist to join the ‘normal’ nine-to-five world – only to discover it’s anything but.

Jane’s been plugging away on her first novel for the past ten years, paying her bills by working for an eccentric author. When he suddenly dies, Jane’s left with no job, no money, and a heap of regret. Tired of the struggle, Jane decides she needs some structure in her life, a sense of stability, and a regular pay-cheque. At 33 years old, is that too much to ask? So, reluctantly putting on hold her dreams of being a great novelist, she jumps headlong into the working world. But as Jane navigates the strange new rules and rituals of corporate culture at Spirits Brokerage, our hyper-imaginative heroine is also confronted with the harsh realities of being a single woman in her thirties. The Jane Show also stars the UK’s Darren Boyd (Smack the Pony, Kiss Me Kate, Green Wing 2) as “Walton”; Patricia Zentilli (Undressed, Lexx) as Jane’s best friend “Susan”; Kate Trotter (Paradise Falls, Lives Of The Saints) as “Stella,” Spirit’s stylish but highly-strung sales manager; and a team of marginally dysfunctional co-workers played by Hardee T. Lineham (Puppets Who Kill, Storm Of The Century) as “Cary,” and musician Andrew Misle of Sugakane (Chasing Freedom, Honey, I Shrunk The Kids: The TV Show) as office slacker “Iggy”. The Jane Show is produced by Shaftesbury Films in association with Global Television, a division of CanWest Media Works Inc. Produced with the assistance of The Canadian Film or Television Tax Credit and The Ontario Film And Television Tax Credit. Worldwide Sales and Distribution rights are held in North America by Shaftesbury Sales Company and in the rest of the world by Content Film International Limited.
