20 December 2005 :: ContentFilm PLC announced a raft of sales for its newest acquisition, Transamerica, whose star, Felicity Huffman, received the nomination for the Golden Globe Award for Best Dramatic Actress, as did Dolly Parton for Best Original Song. ContentFilm acquired the international distribution rights to the dramatic comedy (excluding North America) in April this year prior to the Tribeca Film Festival where the Weinstein Co. acquired the North American rights. ContentFilm has sold the film to almost every country in the world, including the UK, where Transamerica has been picked up by Pathe. Transamerica tells the story of a prudish male-to-female transsexual (Huffman) who discovers that she has a son and pretends to be a Christian missionary, driving across the country to deliver him to his father. Ms Huffman – who also stars in Desperate Housewives – received the best actress award at the Tribeca Film Festival in New York and Director Duncan Tucker won the award for Best Screenplay at the Deauville Film Festival in France. The film was also named Best Film, Siegessaule Reader’s Prize, in Berlin.
The 63rd annual Golden Globe Awards will be announced on 14 January 2006.
