Revelation delayed as lead actor breaks ankle

19 April 2005 :: The shooting schedule of Ana Kokkinos’ The Book of Revelation has had to be rapidly re-arranged after lead actor Tom Long broke his ankle on Friday (April 15) while filming in Melbourne. The film was one week away from wrapping.

The injury occurred when Long landed awkwardly during an action scene in a nightclub setting.

To allow for Long’s required 12 weeks of convalescence, the final week has been rescheduled for mid-August. In the meantime post-production will continue on the seven weeks of material already in the can.

Revelation is based on the book by UK author Rupert Thomson about a dancer at the peak of his powers who disappears for 12 days then returns, just as mysteriously and utterly changed. The other key cast members are Greta Scacchi and Colin Friels.

The erotic horror story is the anticipated second film by Kokkinos (Head On) who adapted the screenplay with Andrew Bovell (Lantana).

“The timing is particularly unfortunate with just one week of the shoot remaining,” said producer Al Clark, “but the priority is for Tom to take the time required for his ankle to recover fully before we resume filming.”

The Wildheart-Zizani production is financed by Film Finance Corporation Australia, ContentFilm, which holds UK and international sales right, the New South Wales Film and Television Office, and Film Victoria. The Royal Bank of Scotland provided gap financing and the local distributor is Palace Films.
