Fireworks International has announced the launch of the 2006 WOMEN’S WORLD AWARDS at MIPCOM in time for the first ever US taping of this prestigious event at Manhattan Center Studios, New York, on October 14.

The WOMEN’S WORLD AWARDS, founded by Mikhail Gorbachev, is a glamorous, star-studded event showcasing the exceptional accomplishments of extraordinary women whose achievements in a variety of fields symbolise the best aspects of humankind – unique personalities with vision, personal strength, commitment to their ideals and, above all, a passion for creating a better world in the 21st century.

Available as a two-hour or a one-hour special and produced by John Cossette (The Grammy Awards®) the 2006 WOMEN’S WORLD AWARDS, co-hosted by Teri Hatcher with performances by Mary J. Blige, Stevie Wonder, Il Divo and Chaka Khan, honours women from all over the world who have reached beyond boundaries and limitations, achieving excellence in various areas including the arts, fashion, business, charities, acting, media, entertainment and humanitarianism. This year’s winners in the twelve distinct categories include Whoopi Goldberg, Sharon Stone, Susan Sarandon, Claudia Schiffer, HM Queen Noor of Jordan, Mary J. Blige & Lucy Liu. Former WOMEN’S WORLD AWARDS winners include Sarah, The Duchess of York, Oprah Winfrey, Linda Evangelista, Catherine Deneuve, Bianca Jagger, Christiane Amanpour, Donatella Versace, The Mothers of the S.O.S Children’s Villages, and the Women of the Special Olympics.
