ContentFilm International is selling worldwide rights (excl the UK, North America, Portugal and the Middle East) ) to Philip Ridley’s HEARTLESS following on from its hit festival screenings at Sitges in Spain and Frightfest in London. Lionsgate has UK and Cinetic reps domestic.
Cult writer/director Philip Ridley (The Reflecting Skin, The Krays) is back with a vengeance with the visually stunning horror/thriller HEARTLESS – a fiercely shocking and intelligent spine-chiller that reinvents the horror genre.
Jim Sturgess (21, The Other Boleyn Girl, Across the Universe) delivers a career defining performance in this twisted story which is equal parts psychological thriller, desperate romance and terrifying Faustian horror… The film also stars Timothy Spall (Harry Potter (Half Blood Prince/Goblet of Fire), Sweeney Todd, The Last Samurai), Clemence Poesy (In Bruges, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire and the upcoming Deathly Hallows), Eddie Marsan (Sherlock Holmes, Hancock, Miami Vice, The Illusionist, Mission: Impossible III) and Noel Clarke (Adulthood, Kidulthood)
The film includes original songs performed by Jim Sturgess.
Some of the crew members are Composer David Julyan (The Descent 1 & 2, The Prestige, Memento), Production Designer Ricky Eyres (Green Street Hooligans, Alfie, The Beach, Saving Private Ryan), Editors Chris Gill (Centurion, 28 Weeks Later, Sunshine, Millions, 28 Days Later) and Paul Knight (The Other Boleyn Girl), Special FX supervisor Nick Rideout (The Descent), with Stunts by Gareth Milne (Harry Brown, The Bourne Identity), Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang and Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom.
The film is produced by Richard Raymond and Pippa Cross (Shooting Dogs, The Hole) with CinemaNX’s Steve Christian and Marc Samuelson, Framestore’s Steve Norris, and Nigel Thomas and Charlotte Walls of Matador Pictures serving as executive producers and Alexander O’Neal as line producer.
Jamie Carmichael said, “Philip Ridley has crafted an extraordinarily beautiful, and yet deeply unsettling horror film that will leave audiences guessing as they hide their eyes in fear. It’s a jaw dropping re-invention of the classic Faustian deal – and of course Jim Sturgess delivers a stellar performance again too.”
ContentFilm will be selling HEARTLESS at the upcoming AFM where it will have its premiere market screening.
CinemaNX and Isle of Man Film, in association with Framestore, present a Matador Pictures, CrossDay and May 13 Production, in association with Cinema Two and Regent Capital, a Philip Ridley Film, Jim Sturgess in HEARTLESS.
